Heroes Avenue

Heroes Alley in Volgograd — a central pedestrian zone 350 meters long bounded by Stalin-era residential buildings. At the beginning of the alley there are replicas of Lenin's and "Golden Star" orders. A wide (100 meters) green area connects the 62nd Army Embankment with the Square of Fallen Fighters crossing Lenin Avenue and Chuykov Street. Here the memory of mass heroism of city residents during the Battle of Stalingrad is immortalized.

"The Volgograd Arena" is located on 62nd Army Embankment, at the foot of Mamayev Kurgan. It is a modern stadium with a capacity of about 45,000 people built specifically for the FIFA World Cup in 2018. The football club "Rotor" plays its home matches here. A distinctive feature of the architecture is an open lacy roof giving the building a unique appearance.
Volgograd State Theatre "Tsaritsyn Opera"

Volgograd State Theatre "Tsaritsyn Opera" is located at V.I. Lenin Avenue, 97. The former factory workshop of "Krasny Oktyabr" is now a cultural heritage site. Founded in 2004, it collaborates with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. The troupe includes honored artists and winners of international competitions. Classical operas, ballets and concert programs are performed here, continuing the operatic traditions of the region since the early 20th century.
Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts I.I. Mashkov

Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts named after I.I. Mashkov is the sole art museum of the city. Founded in 1960, it opened for visitors on June 22, 1963. The collection includes over 7000 works of painting and sculpture, including 99 pieces by Illya Mashkov. Initially, the collection was formed from exhibits of Hermitage, Tretyakov and Historical Museums. Since 2010, it bears the name of a well-known Volgograd artist. Exhibition halls are located at Lenina Avenue, 21 and Chuykova Street, 37.
Volgograd Musical and Dramatic Cossack Theatre

Volgograd Musical and Drama Cossack Theatre is located at Akademicheskaya Street, 3. This building, built in 1862 by merchant A.M. Shlykov, has the status of a regional cultural heritage site. The theatre is known as the first professional Cossack theatre in Russia and focuses on performances reflecting Cossack culture, folklore, and children's dramaturgy. The history of the building is linked to the events of the Battle of Stalingrad: during the battles it housed a hospital and units of the 92nd Rifle Brigade. Today, the theatre offers audiences an interactive performance "Guardsman of Stalingrad. Staircase of Time".
Volgograd Music Theatre

The Volgograd Music Theatre is located at Central Embankment of Volgograd city, at Marshal Chuikov Street, 4. It is the oldest music theatre on the Volga River, known for its rich repertoire including operas, ballet performances, musical comedies and operettas. The performance "Music of Cossack Soul" attracts attention with its Cossack songs and melodies. The theatre also presented comedy "Tsaritsyn Bajki", telling about life in pre-revolutionary Tsaritsyn. The building stands out with white columns, giving it a majestic appearance.
Volgograd Regional Museum of Local Lore

Volgograd Regional Museum of Local Lore is one of the oldest regional museums, established in 1914. It is located in two buildings-pамятниках architecture of the late XIX century: former Tsaritsyn district administration and Volga-Kama Commercial Bank. More than 130 thousand people visit it annually. Here you can see unique exhibits including a collection of antique weapons and Sarmatian gold. The museum's total fund comprises over 143 thousand items, with about 111 thousand items included in the main fund. The museum organizes pedestrian tours that include visiting fire bell tower.
Volgograd Planetarium

Volgograd Planetarium, opened in 1954, is located on Gagarin Street in Volgograd. This building resembling an ancient temple is adorned with a sculptural group "Peace" by Vera Mukhina and has interiors of marble and rare parquet. Inside there is an apparatus "Planetarium" with 99 projectors offering full-dome shows and thematic space programs. The planetarium is among eight best in the world and was a gift from Soviet workers in Germany to Stalin's jubilee. Architectural design developed by honored people's architect V.N. Simbirtsev.

House of Pavlov

The Pavlov House located on Sovetskaya Street in Volgograd became a symbol of courage of Soviet soldiers during World War II. From September to November 1942, a group of soldiers led by Sergeant Yakov Pavlych Pavlov defended the house for 58 days against superior enemy forces. After the war, the building was restored and made habitable. A memorial wall commemorating the heroic feat of defenders is installed at the house. It is situated near the Panorama Museum "Stalingrad Battle" and Gerhardt's mill.
Hall of Military Glory

Heroes' Hall is located in Volgograd, on Mamaev Kurgan. It is a cylindrical structure 13.5 meters high with a base diameter of 40 meters. Inside the hall there are 34 mosaic banners made of red smalti, each commemorating 200 defenders of Stalingrad. The central place is taken by a hand holding an eternal flame torch. Visitors meet the honor guard under the roof with a central light opening 8 meters in diameter.
Kazan Cathedral

The Stone Cross-shaped Kazan Cathedral in Volgograd is located at Lipetskaya Street, 10. The church was built by city residents from 1896 to 1899 and suffered greatly during the Battle of Stalingrad. After being closed in 1939 and converted into a bakery, the cathedral returned to believers after the war and underwent reconstruction in 2010, regaining its original appearance. The cathedral has a long history starting with the first church of the same name from the early 18th century.

Mamaev Kurgan

Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd is a memorial complex "Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad". It features the famous sculpture "Stand Firm" by E.V. Vuchitchev and N.V. Nikitin's engineering project, as well as the Hall of Military Glory with an Eternal Flame. From the base to the top there is a staircase of 200 steps symbolizing the days of the Battle of Stalingrad. The area of the complex is 26 hectares, it stretches for 1.5 kilometers. In братские graves rest remains of more than 35 thousand defenders of the city. In 2019, a major restoration was carried out on the monument "Mother-Russia Calls!".

The Memorial and Historical Museum is located at Volgograd, Gogol Street, 10. It belongs to the museum-reserve "Stalingrad Battle". In five halls there are over 1000 exhibits including documents, weapons and photos depicting events of the Civil War and World War I. The building of the museum is an architectural monument of the late XIX century in eclectic style. Exhibition provides detailed information about the history of White Movement in Southern Russia. Memory Museum

The "Memory" Museum is located in Volgograd on the Square of Fallen Fighters. The exhibition includes unique exhibits from the German army, including the installation "Christmas in the Pot," which recreates the life of surrounded German soldiers in winter 1942. A distinctive feature of the museum is the restored interior of General Paulus's headquarters room, where he surrendered with 23 generals and hundreds of soldiers on January 31, 1943. The former Central Department Store building (TsUM) has been included in Russia's list of historical monuments.

The Panorama Museum of Stalingrad Battle is located on Marshal Chuykov Street in Volgograd and opened in 1982, commemorating the heroism of Soviet soldiers during the battle for the city. It features Russia's largest panorama at 16×120 meters, eight exhibition halls, four dioramas, a cinema hall, outdoor military equipment, and a library with 16,000 books. Over 200,000 exhibits document participants' biographies, while more than 14 million visitors have come to the museum since its establishment.
New Experimental Theatre (NET)

New Experimental Theatre (NET) is located in Volgograd at Mira Street, 5. Founded in 1988 by People's Artist of Russia Otar Dzhanjisherashvili, it is situated in a historical building of Science and Arts House built in 1915. During the Battle of Stalingrad, the building suffered significant damage but was later restored. The theatre's repertoire includes over 45 performances featuring classical works and contemporary productions. There is also a guest room available for families with children at the theatre.

Lenin Monument at Volga-Don Canal in Volgograd is located near the first lock of the largest Russian navigable canal. The 57-meter-high monument is one of the largest in the world and replaced a previous Stalin monument here. The 101-kilometer-long canal was built by over a million people within 3.5 years, opening it in 1952.

This is the largest structure of its kind in Europe with a width of 36 meters, height of 47 meters and length of 296 meters. There are a passenger river port and concert hall of Volgograd Philharmonic here. Architecturally, the station stands out as the main dominating feature of the embankment.
Herder Mill Ruins

The Gerhardt Mill Ruins are located within the complex of the Panorama Museum-Stalingrad Battle. This is a federal historical monument that has survived intense battles of World War II. The building, which was once a five-story brick structure, was intentionally left in ruins along with Pavlov's House and "Rodimtsev Wall." Officially, the site is called "Historical Reserve - Gerhardt Mill named after Grudin."

The monument "Mourning Mother" is located on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd. The statue depicts a woman mourning her fallen son or husband, with her hands supporting the figure of a soldier covered with a battle flag. At the foot of the monument is Tears Lake—a small pool symbolizing grief and remembrance for the deceased. The memorial combines images of mothers who lost their loved ones during the war years.

The building is in neo-Byzantine style and has become an important architectural dominion on Victims' Square surrounded by Park of Victory.

The main decoration of the cathedral are three handmade icons created by Astrakhan masters using ancient technologies. Groundbreaking took place on May 9, 2002 after a traditional procession.
Holy John the Baptist Church

Restored in 1995, it now serves as a convent of the Holy Resurrection Female Monastery.

Central Embankment of 62nd Army in Volgograd is a symbol of city's revival after World War II. In 1942, 13th Guards Division led by General Rodimtsev landed here defending Stalingrad. The embankment is named after this army and decorated with Heroes' Alley leading to upper terrace with rotundas and lower part facing the Volga River. A distinctive feature is Art Fountain and full restoration of pre-war architectural ensemble.
