Mourning Mother

The sculpture "Mourning Mother" is installed on the Sorrow Square at the foot of the memorial Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd. The monument is made of reinforced concrete and depicts a woman leaning over the body of a fallen soldier, whose face is partially hidden by a banner. The composition was created by sculptor Evgeniy Vuchitshin and symbolizes the grief of mothers who lost their sons in war. In front of the monument there is a pool symbolizing a lake of tears.
