Heroes of Stalingrad Battle Monument Ensemble

The monument ensemble "Heroes of Stalingrad Battle" is situated on Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd. The chief architects were Yakov Belopolsky, Vladimir Demin and Fedor Lysov. Sculptures are made from reinforced concrete, areas and paths are paved with granite. The central figure of the ensemble is the monument "Mother-Russia Calls!" atop the kurgan. From the base to the peak there are 200 granite steps, while the area "Stand Firm" features a defender's statue. Pools symbolize the Volga river.
