The Republic of Karelia Museum of Fine Arts in Pyotrozavodsk is located in an historical building from the 18th century, built in 1790 and formerly belonging to the Olonets Male Gymnasium. Its collection includes over 16,000 exhibits, including more than 2,500 Karelian icons, about 2,000 items of folk and decorative-applied arts from the XIX-XX centuries, as well as a collection of approximately 700 works dedicated to the epic "Kalevala". The museum's pride are works by students of Pavel Filonov. An audio guide is available in three languages.

The theater can accommodate up to 607 spectators and offers classical opera and ballet, operetta, musicals and musical comedies. The architecture of the building is inspired by Moscow's Bolshoi Theater and executed in a classic style with white columns. The facade is decorated with sculptural compositions by famous sculptor S. Konenkov. After the reconstruction at the end of the 2000s, the theater updated its modern appearance.

Adjacent are the museum's branches - the "Marcial Waters" health resort and the Sheltozersky Museum of Veps Ethnography. The museum's collection numbers over 230,000 items.

Every winter there is Hyperborea Festival where ice and snow figures are built. In summer it becomes a place for folk festivities and watching Oнеж Regatta. The opening took place on June 25, 1994.
Pyotr I Monument

The monument to Pyotr I is located on Onega Boulevard in Pyotrozavodsk. The monument was opened in 1873 to commemorate the centenary of the Onenga factory and depicts the emperor in parade uniform with a sword. The pedestal is made of Seredolsk granite by architect I.A. Monigetti. Pyotr points his right hand at the place where the foundry for casting cannons was laid in the mouth of Lososinka River in 1703. The monument was created by the Moранда plant in St. Pyotrsburg based on the model of sculptor I.N. Shreder.

According to local belief, touching this stone wallet brings luck and wealth. The wallet is made of Paula's Riga quarry stone and decorated with the inscription "Pyotrozavodchane, be happy and rich!" on a metal latch. The gift to the city was given by the Latvian construction-design company from Riga.

It was created by sculptors Alexander and Vladislav Manachinsky with architects Valery Kim and Nikolay Mikhailov to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the city. It allegorically depicts the birth of Pyotrozavodsk as a defensive outpost of Russia. The central figure is a young warrior in a boat holding a shield with the emblem of Pyotrozavodsk and a spear.

The sculpture "Under the Same Stars" is located on Onega Embankment in Pyotrozavodsk. It is made from a heavy stainless steel plate weighing 960 kg and is a gift from the city of Neubrandenburg (Germany). The author of the work is German sculptor Rainer Kessler, who also engraved a star map and an image of a scorpion onto the monument. The sculpture was installed in 2000 and mounted under the personal supervision of the author.

Created by American artist of Cuban origin Rafael Consuegra, it symbolizes the joint work of Russians and Americans through the images of two fishermen casting a net. Installed in 1991, this sculpture became the first piece of an open-air gallery of modern art and is an unofficial symbol of Pyotrozavodsk. It was produced at the local enterprise "Pyotrozavodskmash".

On the Oнежская Embankment in Pyotrozavodsk there is an unusual sculpture called "Tübingen Panel". It was created by German artists Bernhard Vogelmann and Kurt Geißelhardt at the factory "Pyotrozavodskmash". The composition consists of 61 metal poles of different heights, shapes and colors, each containing stones from historical places in Karelia and Germany. Symbols of grief, joy and unity are embodied in the form and arrangement of the poles. Local residents call it differently: "Monument to a set of lock picks", "Thinking reed", "Parachutist's death". Installed in 1994.
