Eternal Flame of Glory Memorial Complex and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The memorial complex "Eternal Flame of Glory and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" is located in Petrozavodsk on the Eternal Flame Square and was solemnly opened on June 28, 1969, for the 25th anniversary of the city's liberation. In its center is a five-sided prism made of crimson quartzite with the Eternal Flame burner, and the base is made of polished gabbro-diabase. On the territory, there is a 60-ton granite boulder with an inscription dedicated to the heroes who gave their lives for the happiness of the people. The history of the mass grave, which is part of the complex, began on June 1, 1919, when Soviet soldiers who died fighting the interventionists and White Guards were buried here, and the remains of the Unknown Soldier were discovered in the Medvezhyegorsk district near Lake Erilamba.
