National Theatre of Republic of Karelia

The National Theatre of the Republic of Karelia is located at Karl Marx Avenue, 19 in Pyotrozavodsk. Its main task is to preserve the Karelian and Vepsian cultures through performances held in four languages: Russian, Finnish, Karelian and Vepsian. The theater plays an important role in the cultural life of the region and the preservation of linguistic heritage of Karelia. The history of the theatre began with the opening of the People's House in Pyotrozavodsk on December 26, 1906, where a professional theatrical ensemble first appeared.
