Kirov Square

Kirov Square in Petrozavodsk, formerly known as Cathedral Square before the revolution, received its current name in memory of Sergei Mironovich Kirov, whose monument was erected in the center in 1936. The territory of the square houses the National Theater of Karelia, the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, and the building of the Musical Theater, constructed in 1955 according to the design of architect Savva Brodsky. The "City of Military Glory" stele is also located here. Bounded by Kuibyshev and Karl Marx Streets, Pushkin Street, Komsomolsky Garden, and the Twin Cities Alley, the square serves as the central public space of the city.
