Republic of Karelia Music Theatre

The Republic of Karelia Music Theatre is situated on Kirov Square in Pyotrozavodsk. It is the largest stage in the republic with an auditorium accommodating 607 seats. The theatre is renowned for staging the first Karelian ballet "Sampo" in 1959 and hosting theatrical troupes from other cities. Its history began in 1948 following temporary closure due to lack of equipment and resumed under the decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1955. Since then it has actively performed for military units and naval forces in the region.
