Mining Superintendent's House

The House of the Mining Chief in Petrozavodsk is a two-story wooden building on a high stone plinth with two stone wings, built in 1786–1789 for engineer Charles Gascoigne. It served as the residence of mining chiefs and was part of the historical and architectural ensemble of Round Square. In August 1819, Emperor Alexander I stayed here, using the building as a travel palace. After a major fire on March 5, 2026, which seriously damaged the central wooden part, the authorities of the Republic of Karelia announced their intention to restore the architectural monument.
