Monument to G. R. Derzhavin

The monument to Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin is installed in the Governor's Garden of Petrozavodsk and was solemnly opened on June 28, 2003, in honor of the city's 300th anniversary. The bronze figure of the first Olonets governor, 2.7 meters high, made at the Petrozavodskmash plant, depicts him in a ceremonial uniform with a scroll in his hand. The sculptural composition, created by sculptor Walter Soini and architect Emil Kuldavletov, emphasizes Derzhavin's role as a poet and statesman. The total height of the monument with its red granite pedestal is 4.5 meters, and Derzhavin readings and educational events are regularly held nearby.
