Here was located the 117th Separate Artillery Detachment that ensured defense of Gelendzhik and protected Soviet ships in Tsemes Bay. Today a museum dedicated to the heroism of artillerymen-batterymen is open here.

There is a legend linking the name of Lermontov with his arrival here by sea from Taman in 1837.

The Prayer cross on the Martokh Ridge stands at an elevation of 580 meters above sea level and reaches a total height of about 43 meters including its base. The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is located in Gelendzhik on Gornaya Street, 17. Built from 1914 to 1915 as originally a chapel of Saint Prophet Elijah at the city cemetery. Today it is an architectural monument of the early 20th century and an important cultural heritage site of Russia.
