Roman Watchtower
Gelendzhik District, Arkhyzo-Osipovka village, Black Sea coast
The Roman watchtower is situated near Archipovo-Osipovka village, in Gelendzhik district. Dated to the 2nd-3rd centuries AD, it is a monument of Roman colonization of the Russian Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. The structure had military-police and customs functions, overseeing trade at the mouth of Vulan river. Wall fragments reach a thickness of 1.5 meters.
