Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Market

The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Market in Vologda is a stone church built in 1778–1780 with the funds of parishioners under the guidance of church elder Kirill Poyarkov. The consecration of the building took place on April 6, 1785, and the main altar was dedicated to the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos after the fire of 1679. In the first half of the 19th century, the church became the summer church of the Pokrovsko-Kazan parish, while the neighboring Kazan Church was used for winter services. In Soviet times, after its closure on May 7, 1926, the building was transferred to the provincial archive, and later used as a warehouse of the Vologda Pedagogical Institute. The stone church has chapels of Makary of Unzha and Joachim and Anna.
