Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery

Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery in Vologda, founded by Saint Dmitry Prilutsky in the 1380s, is one of the oldest northern monasteries with a communal rule. By the 15th century it had gained widespread fame due to the holiness of its founder. Stone buildings emerged in the 16th century while fortress walls with towers were constructed in the mid-17th century. After being closed during Soviet times, the monastery reopened in 1991. Its grounds cover approximately 3 hectares, while the wall length reaches about 950 meters.
