Sophian Cathedral

The Sophy Cathedral in Vologda was founded in 1567 and completed construction in 1568-1570. To the cathedral three closed stone porches were added in the Russian-Byzantine style of the mid-19th century. Inside there are monumental frescoes painted in 1686-1688. The bell tower was reconstructed in 1870 according to architect V.N. Shildknecht's project. The building has a width of 25.6 meters and five domes. It is an important historical symbol of the city.
