Shalamov House

Shalamov's House situated on Sergey Orlov Street in Vologda is a memorial site associated with the childhood and youth of writer Varlam Tikhonovich Shalamov. It is a two-story mansion built in 1844 originally owned by the Vologda Eparchy. Since 1988 it houses collections of Russian and Western European art. The first floor accommodates Shalamov Memorial Museum featuring art exhibitions. The museum opened on July 1, 1991. Nearby stands Sophian Cathedral where the writer's father served.
