Gornje-Uspenski Nunnery

Gorny-Uspensky Female Monastery is situated in Vologda on Burmagin Street, 19A. Founded in 1590, it was named after the area "Gora" and the cathedral church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1824 Emperor Alexander I visited here. During Soviet times it housed a transit prison and military unit. The monastery is female and belongs to the Vologda diocese. It was officially reopened in December 2015 after a long break.
