Church of Demetrius of Priluki on Navolok

The Church of Demetrius of Priluki on Navolok in Vologda is a two-story, five-domed, four-pillar cathedral-type church built on a traditional podklet. The construction of the stone building began in 1687 and was completed with its consecration in 1698, although other dates are found in historical literature. In the early 18th century, the interior walls of the cold church dedicated to Venerable Demetrius of Priluki were decorated with Baroque-style frescoes, presumably executed by a Yaroslavl artel. The side chapel of Maxim the Confessor was consecrated in 1781 at the expense of the merchant Maxim Ivanovich Rybnikov, and its iconostasis was later transferred to the Vologda Museum-Reserve. During the Soviet period, the church preserved its historical frescoes and the main five-tiered gilded iconostasis.
