Holy Mikhail's Cathedral

The Holy-Mikhail's Cathedral in Izhevsk is one of the city's main Orthodox symbols. The cathedral building was destroyed in 1937 but reconstruction began in 2000; its main altar was consecrated by Patriarch Alexius II in 2007. Following the restoration of independence for the Izhevsk and Udmurt Diocese in 1989, discussions about reviving the cathedral commenced. Since July 2017, it has held the status of the cathedral of the Izhevsk and Udmurt Diocese. In 1929, the temple was closed, and in 1918, a battle took place near its walls during the Izhorsk-Votkinsk uprising.
