Armorers' Square

The Gunsmiths' Square in Izhevsk is located next to the "Izhmash" Museum and includes the restored Mikhailovskaya Column, erected in honor of Prince Mikhail Pavlovich Romanov. The memorial ensemble was created in 2007 on the territory of the former Public Garden, which also features a monument to Izhevsk gunsmiths — a three-meter-high bronze composition depicting craftsmen in caftans and top hats. The square received its name in the same year in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Izhevsk Arms Plant and the 60th anniversary of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, and its observation platforms offer views of the old factory complex. It was at this very site in 1870 that a school for training gunsmiths was opened.
