Alexander S. Pushkin Monument

In Izhevsk, on Universitetskaya Square near Udmurt State University (UdGU), there stands a bronze statue of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. It was unveiled in 2003 under the initiative of university rector Vitaly Anatolyevich Zhuravlev. Behind the sculpture is a concrete colonnade with decorations styled after classical XIX-century architecture. Among UdGU students there's an anecdote that successful exam sessions can be achieved after looking into the poet's eyes and showing him their transcript. The solemn opening was accompanied by a choral concert of Georgy Sviridov's compositions "Pushkin's Wreath".
