Tukay Square

Казань, площадь Тукая

Tukay Square in Kazan originally carried the name Rybnoyardskaya, later renamed after Vladimir Kuibyshev. Here stands a memorial statue of Mullanur Vakhitov installed in 1985. In the past, a tramline passed through the square, subsequently relocated. In 1998, the metro station here officially took the name "Tukay Square". During the late 1930s, both street and square were named after Kuibyshev. Also significant in the history of the square was the construction of Kazan's first trolleybus line in 1948.
