Freedom Square in Kazan is one of the central city squares. In its center there is a monument to Vladimir Illich Lenin installed in 1954 after the park clearing. Previously it was called Theatre Square and adjoined Derzhavinsky Garden where now stands the Tatar Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. From the square main streets lead out - Pushkin, Karl Marx and Gorky Streets going towards Kazan Kremlin, riverbanks and cultural institutions. Its current name was fixed in 1924.
