Kazan Cat Monument

The Kazan Cat Monument is situated on pedestrian Bauman Street in Kazan. It has become a symbol of the city due to the tradition of breeding cats at Elizabeth Pyotrovna's court for mouse control. Popular among tourists who take photos there. The idea of installing the monument arose after a scientific conference in Kazan in 2005. Legends connect it with the history of Kazan cats known since mid-18th century. Images of the Kazan cat were popular in folk prints from the 17th to early 20th centuries.
