Spassky Cathedral

The Spassky Cathedral in Pyatigorsk, consecrated in the name of Christ the Savior on May 31, 1869, was built according to the design of Samuel Upton, the architect of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. In 1936, the historic temple was blown up, and a cafe was first built in its place, followed by a city square with a fountain. The restored cathedral was consecrated by Patriarch Kirill on December 14, 2012, after which it became the cathedral of the Pyatigorsk Diocese. Among its holy relics are a particle of the True Cross and a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
