Catholic Church of the Transfiguration (Kostel)

The Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Pyatigorsk was built in the historical center with the permission of Emperor Nicholas I, obtained in 1837. Construction according to the project of architects Bernardazzi brothers and Samuel Upton began in 1840, and the building is white. Under the church with vaulted ceilings there was a burial vault where architect Nikolai Nevinsky was buried, and after the closure of the church, the burials were moved to the city cemetery. The first service in the church restored in 1989–1991 took place in 1992, and the Roman Catholic church is located next to the Lermontov Square.
