Pirogov Baths

The Pirogov Baths in Pyatigorsk were solemnly opened on July 6, 1914, as a modern medical complex designed for more than twenty mineral baths. The one-story brick building in the neoclassical style, featuring elements of ancient thermae, was equipped with a water heating system, and two symmetrical ramps were arranged at the main entrance for horse-drawn carriages. At the time of opening, the medical facility bore the name of S. V. Tilicheyev, the director of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, and received its current name later in honor of the surgeon Nikolai Pirogov. The main facade of the building is adorned with ceramic panels created by the painter I. L. Kalmykov, depicting scenes from ancient Roman thermae.
