Novopyatigorsk Lake

Pyatigorsk, Novopyatigorsk district

Novopyatigorskoye Lake is an artificial reservoir in Pyatigorsk, created in the early 1960s thanks to an earthen dam 2.44 kilometers long in the floodplain of the Podkumok River. The water surface area is about 55 hectares, and the total volume reaches 2.3 million cubic meters. The reservoir is filled with water from the Podkumok River, and until the start of a large-scale reconstruction in 2024, it was drained annually for cleaning before the swimming season. From the shores of the lake, on good weather days, the peaks of Mashuk, Beshtau, and the Greater Caucasus are visible.
