Lermontov's Duelling Ground

On the northwestern slope of Mount Mashuk lies the site of the famous duel between Mikhail Yurevich Lermontov and Major Nikolay Martynov, which took place on July 15, 1841. Here, on July 27 of that year, the poet died. Later, his remains were transported to Tarkhany. This memorial point is associated with the final period of Lermontov's life in Pyatigorsk.
