Grotto of Diana

Grotto of Diana situated in the southern part of "Tsvetnik" park near Goryachaya Mountain was built to commemorate the first ascent on Elbrus in 1829. Construction was completed by summer 1831 according to the design of Italian architect Giuseppe Bernardazzi. Before the grotto, Lermontov organized a village ball for ladies on July 8th, 1841. The structure had three entrances and became a monument to an important historical event.
