Maxim Gorky Academic Drama Theatre, Rostov

The Rostov Academic Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky is situated on the Theatre Square in Rostov-on-Don. The building of the theatre, constructed in 1935, features unique decor: marble from quarries opened by the theatre itself in Crimea and the Urals was used for its creation. The theatre is renowned for major awards such as the prize from the Fourth International Festival of Theatre Arts in 1937. The stage area exceeded 1100 sq. m while the orchestra pit could accommodate up to 100 musicians. Initially called Asmolovsky Theatre, it was renamed after the revolution to honor Anatoly Lunacharsky.
