Kumzhenskaya Grove Memorial Complex

Rostov-on-Don, Kumzhenskaya St, 2a (Kumzhen Grove)

The central element of the Kumzhenskaya Grove memorial complex is the "Assault" monument, topped by an 18-meter metal arrow pointing in the direction of the main strike by Soviet troops. The sculptural group features the real faces of participants in the liberation of the city, including machine gun company commander Alexey Filippov, who became the third prototype, and political officer Aleksandra Nozadze, depicted as a female figure. The names of military units that fought for Rostov are engraved on memorial plaques, and the complex grounds contain relocated mass graves from Nizhnyaya Gnilovskaya.
