A. S. Pushkin Monument

The monument to A. S. Pushkin on the Ural embankment in Orenburg was opened in October 1982; its author is the sculptor Vagan Stepanyan. The poet is depicted sitting on a stone with an open notebook on his knees and a pencil in his right hand. Pushkin's trip to Orenburg was related to gathering materials about Yemelyan Pugachev's uprising for creating "The History of Pugachev" and the story "The Captain's Daughter," and Vladimir Dal accompanied him through the historical sites. In Orenburg, the poet was received by Governor Vasily Perovsky.
