Taras Shevchenko Memorial Guardhouse Museum

The Taras Shevchenko Memorial Museum-Gaol in Orenburg is located in a building that is an architectural and historical monument. According to archival data, Taras Shevchenko was imprisoned in the guardhouse in Orenburg from April 27 to May 12, 1850, and the memorial part of the museum has preserved a floor made of limestone brought from the Grebensky Mountains. The exposition includes a separate section dedicated to the poet's work under prohibitions. The museum opened on March 9, 1989, for the 175th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko, on the initiative of the Orenburg local historian L. N. Bolshakov.
