Taras Shevchenko Memorial Museum-Gaupthwacht

The Taras Shevchenko Memorial Museum-Guardhouse is located in Orenburg on Soviet Street, 24. It was opened in 1989 to commemorate the poet's anniversary. Built between 1836-1841 as a special purpose residence, it previously housed headquarters. From 1844 onwards, it operated as a garrison guardhouse. A special section of the exhibit focuses on Shevchenko's life and work under censorship. The building is recognized as an architectural and historical monument.
