Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Nizhny Novgorod is situated on Sherbakov Street. Construction of the church began upon decision of the Holy Synod in 1898. The dome reaches a height of approximately 42.7 meters. The cathedral is known among locals as "Kopeychnyy" because workers from Sormovsky Plant donated according to a penny per each earned ruble. After stopping services in 1935, the building was used as a cultural center and storage facility. The bell set weighed 26.5 tons and was specially made for the cathedral in Yaroslavl.
