Valery Chkalov Monument
Нижний Новгород, Верхне-Волжская набережная (у Георгиевской башни Кремля)
Valery Chkalov Monument is located on the Upper Volga Embankment near Georgiyevskaya Tower of Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. The sculpture was made by I.A. Mendeleev, a friend of Chkalov, and installed in memory of the famous pilot who died on December 15, 1938. On the pedestal there are marked routes of his legendary flights. Chkalov is depicted at the moment of readiness for flight—pulling on a glove. A Chkalov staircase leading to the monument consists of 560 steps symbolizing an eight.
