Monument to Minin and Pozharsky

The monument to Kuzma Minin and Prince Pozharsky is located on Unity Square in Nizhny Novgorod. It was opened on November 4, 2005 by Patriarch Alexius II. The sculpture was created according to Zurab Tsereteli's project and is a smaller copy of the monument on Red Square in Moscow. On the pedestal of the memorial composition there is an engraved inscription: "To Prince Pozharsky and citizen Minin grateful Russia". Nearby is the Church of the Birth of John the Baptist, from where Minin addressed the Нижегородцы with a call to the army against Polish interveners in 1611.
