Monument to Minin and Pozharsky

The monument to Kuzma Minin and Prince Pozharsky stands on Unity Square in Nizhny Novgorod. Dedicated on November 4, 2005, by Patriarch Alexius II, it was designed by Zurab Cereteli and is a scaled-down version of the Moscow Kremlin Red Square monument. Inscribed on its base is the dedication: “To Prince Pozharsky and Citizen Minin, Grateful Russia.” Adjacent is the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist, where Minin rallied the locals for their 1611 uprising against Polish invaders.
