The Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum is located in the Kremlin and at the Stroka in Nizhny Novgorod. Founded in 1896, it is the oldest regional art museum in Russia. It features a collection of over 12,000 works of Russian, Western European and Eastern art, including pieces by renowned artists such as Aivazovsky, Levitan, Kustodiev and Rerikh. The Pushkin Festival of operatic and ballet arts "Bolshdetskaya Osen" takes place annually. Open daily except Mondays; extended hours until 20:00 on Thursdays.
