Mikhail-Gor'kii-Academy-of-Drama-Theatre

Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Drama Theatre named after M. Gorky is situated on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, one of the city's major pedestrian arteries. Founded in 1798, it is among Russia's oldest provincial theaters. The theater building, named after Maxim Gorky, accommodates 705 seats and features modern equipment. Regularly hosted here are performances by renowned Russian theaters, with repertoire including works of Russian and foreign classics as well as contemporary dramas. In front of the theater lies a stone square known as Theater Square. The opening took place on the day of the imperial family's coronation featuring opera "Life for the Tsar" performed by F.I. Chaliapin.
