Cathedral Mosque of Nizhny Novgorod is situated on a high bank of Volga near Sennaya Square. The building is made in traditional Islamic style using red bricks and features a three-tier minaret over twenty meters tall. The main entrance is decorated with an awning on figured brackets. Inside, there is a semicircular mihrab indicating the direction to Mecca. The mosque was returned to Muslims in 1988 after a long period of use by other organizations. The opening took place in 1915.
