Yoskin Cat Monument
Yoshkar-Ola, Leninsky Avenue, entrance to Mari State University
The monument "Yoshkin Kot" is situated on Leninsky Prospekt in Yoshkar-Ola, in front of the entrance to the Mari State University. It was installed in 2011 and quickly became a symbol of the city. According to local lore, touching the statue's paw and making a wish can fulfill it. The image of the cat is taken from a local euphemism "Yoshkin kot," where the name of the city sounds similar to the first part of the expression. The sculpture also attracts tourists due to souvenir products featuring its likeness.
