Sergei Chavayn Monument

In Yoshkar-Ola, at the intersection of Chavain Boulevard and Soviet Street, there stands a monument to Sergey Grigoryevich Chavain, an outstanding Mari writer and classic of Mari literature. A sculpture by Boris Dyuzhev depicts the writer sitting with a book in his left hand. The monument is made of bronze and placed on a granite pedestal. Initially mistakenly indicated death date "1942" was later corrected to the correct year - 1937. It was unveiled on July 21, 1978, to commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of the author's birth.
