Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral
Vyborg, Cathedral Square, 1
Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Vyborg serves as the centerpiece of the cathedral square architectural ensemble. During its reconstruction in the 1860s, decorative painting was executed according to the design of artist Savva Postemskii. In 1889, the altar room was expanded. The cathedral's bell tower had seven bells weighing up to 4,265 kg. After Vyborg returned to Finland, part of the church fabrics were transferred to other parishes within the country. The cathedral played an important role in Finnish Orthodox history, remaining the hub of one of the dioceses even after the diocesan headquarters moved to Sortavala.
