Swedish Girls' Gymnasium
Vyborg, Leningradsky Avenue, 11
Swedish Girls' Gymnasium was situated in Vyborg at Leninskiy Prospekt, 11. Established in 1788, it operated until 1937 and was considered the first state-run female gymnasium in Northern Europe. The building, constructed in 1885 by architects YU.YA. Arenberg and K. Kiselev, moved to its new location after clearing the site where an earlier church stood. The school taught in German until 1842 when it switched to Swedish instruction.
