Old Town Hall Square
Vyborg, Old Town Hall Square
Old Town Hall Square - historical heart of Viipuri, dating back to the 14th century between the city cathedral and Abo Bridge. It is the oldest existing city square situated in its old center at the intersection of Streets Fortress, North Wall and South Wall. Here in 1403 the municipal rights of Viipuri were proclaimed. After reconstruction according to architect Yu.Ya. Arenberg's project, the square acquired neo-Renaissance appearance with a monument to Torgils Knutsson. Previously there was the Borchardt house, later owned by wealthy merchants Vekrums, where in 1772 Catherine II stayed.
