Finnish Red Guards Monument
Vyborg, Leningradskoye Highway, 4th km
The monument to Finnish red guards in Vyborg stands at the 4th kilometer of the St Pyotrsburg Highway. It is a granite pillar about four meters high with reliefs of Russian and Finnish workers bowing down with banners. On the backside of the pillar there is an inscription in both Russian and Finnish languages commemorating working-class solidarity. The opening took place in April 1961 in the presence of a Finnish delegation. Work on the monument was interrupted by Finnish authorities after construction began for a memorial to victims of executions in 1918.
