Ludwigsstein

Vyborg, Monrepos Park, Ludwigstein Island

Ludwigsstein Island is situated within Monrepos Park; it features a neo-gothic chapel-funerary monument Ludwigsburg constructed between 1822-1830 by architect C.H. Thate. Here lie the remains of Ludwig Heinrich Nikolay and his spouse moved here after their demise in 1820. There are also three preserved brick vaults with black marble gravestones on the island. Previously known as Erichstein, it is associated with the legend of imprisoning Swedish king Eric XIV. Access to the island can be achieved via ferry transfer.
