Pokrovsky Cathedral

Pokrovsky Cathedral in Krasnoyarsk is situated at Surikov Street, 26. It is the oldest preserved stone building of the city, built by parishioners of Krasnoyarsk and nearby villages. The temple was reconstructed three times from wood before its stone embodiment. After being closed during Soviet times it served as a sculptor's workshop and exhibition hall. Today the cathedral is the cathedra of Krasnoyarsk Metropolitan See and Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church where Patriarchs Alexius II and Kirill have been. Under its arched vault there has been found fresco painting dating to late XVIII - early XIX century.
