Church of the Birth of John the Baptist

Stony Church of the Birth of John the Baptist in Kirov situated on ulitsa Svobody, 54d combines elements of Vyatka architecture and baroque. Built in 1717 it is among the oldest surviving city temples. Originally the parish was formed near the old town rampart. The church is functioning with altars dedicated to the Birth of John the Baptist, Zachariah and Elizabeth as well as the Icon of Our Lady of Gruzinskaya. Construction took place during Pyotr I's ban on building stone buildings outside Saint Pyotrsburg.
