Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist

The Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Kirov is one of the oldest surviving churches in the city; its stone construction began on June 5, 1714. The architecture of the building combines features of the Vyatka school and Baroque style, and the church was built next to an existing wooden church, trying to replicate its outlines. In 1993, an ancient icon of Saint Tryphon of Vyatka, found on the banks of the Vyatka River, was transferred to the church; according to legend, the face on the icon began to lighten without the intervention of restorers. In October 1994, the temple was visited by Patriarch Alexy II, to whom they gave a Dymkovo toy in the form of an ornate Orthodox church.
