Voskresenskaya Street

Voskresenskaya Street in Kaluga is about 589 meters long and is mainly built up with buildings from the late 18th to the 19th centuries. Here is the stone Church of St. George the Victorious "za lavkami" (behind the shops), built in 1700 on donations, which was returned to the diocese in 2009 after the Soviet period. In one of the historic houses from 1892 to 1900, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky taught exact sciences, and in the 18th–19th centuries, charitable institutions operated on the street, including the surviving Pestryakov Almshouse. During the Soviet era, the street was named after the revolutionary Sofia Perovskaya, to whom a monument by sculptor A. N. Braganov is dedicated, and in 1991 its historical name was restored.
